Energy Bills Set to Rise This October

Energy Bills Set to Rise This October

Ofgem, the UK’s energy regulator, has confirmed that the energy price cap will increase by 2% from October 2025. This means many households will see slightly higher gas and electricity bills just as we head into the colder months.

What does this mean for you?

  • A typical household’s annual energy bill will rise to around £1,755.

  • This is about £35 more per year (roughly £3 extra each month).

  • The rise is slightly higher than expected, making budgeting even more important this winter.

Why are bills going up?

Ofgem has explained that the increase is linked to changes in wholesale energy costs and other market factors. The price cap is designed to protect customers from unfair charges, but it can still rise or fall depending on wider costs.

Tips to help manage your bills

  • Be mindful with energy use: small changes like switching off unused appliances, reducing heating by 1 degree, or using energy-efficient bulbs can make a difference.

  • Check if you’re entitled to support: government schemes and local council help may be available for households struggling with bills.

  • Speak to your supplier: most energy companies have support options if you’re finding it difficult to keep up with payments.
