Thinking about moving to a smaller home? Get financial incentives and support
We’re pleased to share the news that Karibu has partnered with Brent Council and is also working closely with the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea (RBKC) to offer more opportunities for residents who are considering downsizing to a smaller home.
These schemes are designed to help you move into a home that better suits your current needs, while also freeing up larger properties for families who need them most.
Brent – Downsize Incentive Scheme
Through our new partnership with Brent Council, Karibu residents living in Brent can receive financial incentives for downsizing:

£5,000 for giving up one bedroom

£10,000 for giving up two bedrooms

Even more for additional bedrooms
There are also extra incentives available for residents moving from larger or specially adapted homes.

Kensington & Chelsea – Under-Occupation Scheme
If you are a Karibu resident in Kensington & Chelsea, you can take part in RBKC’s Under-Occupation (downsizing) Scheme.
This scheme offers:

Lower rent and bills when moving to a smaller home

Freedom from the “bedroom tax” if you currently have spare bedrooms
-
Access to housing for older residents (aged 55+ or 60+ for sheltered housing)
-
Flexibility to move to another part of London or even outside the capital
Priority points for downsizing
Residents who give up bedrooms receive extra priority on the Housing Register:

| 1 bedroom | 1,000 points |
| 2 bedrooms | 1,100 points |
| 3 bedrooms | 1,200 points |
| 4+ bedrooms | 1,300 points |

Extra support to make moving easier
Both Brent and RBKC provide practical support to help make your move as smooth as possible. This could include:
